That’s great Gertrude, I hope it’s working well for you too.

is this still working for you? I desperately want to reduce my drinking but have had little success!!
-
Yes it is, I’m about three months in taking Selincro and my consumption is about 33% now. I had expected to perhaps be lower but I must admit I’ve made little effort other than taking the pills. I’m hopefully going to introduce some more alcohol free days now that my cravings are much lower. I have been told that it takes on average between 6 and 9 months to work completely to eradicate the desire for alcohol.

Do you think it would help me, I’m desperate to cut down my drinking. I drink nearly two bottles of wine a night every night!!! I don’t even get that drunk, think I’m so used to alcohol. I feel terrible most of the time though!!!

Hi Michael, I think it almost certainly can sounds very similar to my circumstances. It drastically changes how you feel about drinking alcohol. I drink now maybe one or two glasses a night when I do drink, never more than that. Before I’d find it almost impossible not to finish a bottle and start another! It does take time and still requires effort (oh and can be expensive depending how you get it!) but it works for a very high percentage of people who try it. The main rule is that you must have a pill an hour before drinking any alcohol, that’s extremely important. Search on the Sinclair Method – there’s a bit online on Selincro and how it works but I’m amazed it’s not more mainstream yet because it really does work. Good luck….

Hi, is it hard to get the prescription from the online pharmacy link below? What does the online consultation include?? Any tips would be gratefully received – I really want to try this method….
-
HI James, It’s a short questionnaire which includes a drink diary. Basically a record of what alcohol you normally drink. I think Selincro is normally prescribed for low to moderate drinkers not very high levels on alcohol. I put mine down at about 35-40 units a week (UK measures) and they approved it without question. I did get a couple of emails asking for how it was going before my repeat prescription. Which I just said it was working well as my alcohol consumption had fallen by about 75%.

Thanks for this, just googled and found a Guardian article about this drug. I’m going to try it I think, my drinking is definitely getting out of control…..will see if I can order some from that online pharmacy you mentioned.

No problem, good luck Miquel. Just for information here’s the link to one of the Guardian articles about Nalmefene/Selincro – if you search there’s a few articles on their site. There was a small review of someone who’d tried it but can’t seem to find that one at the moment.
Anyway good luck and hope it works out for you.

Thanks for this, I’ve struggled with my alcohol consumption for many years now and had never heard of Selincro! I’m really interested in trying as I don#t think I can face giving drink up completely. I’ll let you know how I get on!

Would love to hear how it works for you Suzanne. It’s changed my whole outlook to alcohol in the last few months. I’m close to about 10 months now, I’d estimate my alcohol consumption is down by about 80-90%. Apparently the long term goal with using Selincro is something called “pharmacological extinction’ where you are completely indifferent to alcohol and no longer have any cravings or desire to drink. I’m not at that stage yet but it does seem a possibility.
